An original method is proposed for revealing preferences of a decision-making person. The method consists in partition of the criteria space into domains and determination of the preference pattern among them using qualitative judgments of the decision-maker, relation of dominance by Pareto, qualitative consideration of significances by Podinovski. As a result of application of the procedure proposed by Larichev in the QUERY method, the preference levels of all domains are determined. While the alternative-ranking problems are solved, several nondominated alternatives may fall into the same domain. A question of their comparison arises. In this case, it is recommended to the user either to divide the domain under consideration into smaller areas or to take advantage of the quantitative method for comparing the alternatives inside the given domain. A function, using which a final alternative estimate is calculated, is called the hybrid function of preferences. It can be used in the automated decision support systems in problems on selection, ranking, and optimization. The application of this function is planned for problems of ranking requests for scientific-applied research conducted at the Russian segment of the International Space Station.
